Timothée Chalamet’s most recent performance at the Venice Film Festival caused a social media uproar. The actor became an overnight fashion icon when he wore a backless red outfit by designer Haider Ackermann, with online users gushing over his sense of style. Timothée, who isn’t particularly fond of social media, was open about feeling “intensely judged” as a result of the demands of the platforms.
Speaking at the press conference of his film, ‘Bones and All’ at the film festival, he said, “To be young now, and to be young whenever — I can only speak for my generation — is to be intensely judged. I can’t imagine what it is to grow up without the onslaught of social media.”
Talking about his film which is based in the 1980s before the age of social media , Timothée said: “And it was a relief to play characters who are wrestling with an internal dilemma absent the ability to go on Reddit or Twitter, Instagram or TikTok and figure out where they fit in (sic).”
Chalamet calls it a “tough” time to be alive and he thinks that “societal collapse” is in the air.
