Two border security forces (BSF) including a sub-inspector officer were killed in a surprise attack by the militants, while the force was on patrol duty near Tripura’s border outpost in Dhalai district, 90 km of Agartala, on 3rd August 2021.
It is suspected that the outlawed National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) is involved in the incident.
The Deputy Inspector General of Tripura Police (Law & Order) Arindam Nath said, BSF constables and a sub-inspector, who were posted on duty at RC Nath Border Outpost (BOP) under Chawmanu police station of Dhalai district, were killed in the ambush.
The official sources said, “It seems the militants crossed the Indo-Bangla border after the incident.”
Senior officials, including DIG Northern Range L Darlong, Additional SP of Dhalai district Kallol Roy and other officials, rushed to the spot.
The reports also suggested that two of the weapons that belonged to the BSF personnel were also taken away by the militants.
“During the encounter, 2 BSF personnel — sub-inspector Bhuru Singh and constable Raj Kumar sustained fatal injuries and lost their lives. Militants have reportedly sustained some injuries,” a statement issued by the BSF PRO from Frontier headquarters at Salbagan said.
The statement further added “A massive search operation has been launched in the area to nab the militants”,
Reacting and condemning the brutal attack by the militants, the Chief Minister of Tripura Biplob Deb tweeted, “I strongly condemn the cowardly attack against our BSF personnel in Dhalai. The sacrifices of our brave security personnel not go in vain. India stands shoulder to shoulder with the brave families of our brave martyrs”.@BSF-Tripura
