According to a Border Security Force spokeswoman, two members of the force’s peacekeeping operation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo were killed amid violent protests on Tuesday.
S. Jaishankar, the minister of external affairs, expressed his great sorrow over the deaths of the two brave Indian peacekeepers and asked that those responsible for the “outrageous acts” be held accountable and brought to justice.
The minister sent the grieving families his condolences. The two troops were a part of MONUSCO, the United Nations Organization’s Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The second day of protests against the UN mission in the country in the city of Goma in eastern Congo resulted in at least five fatalities and around 50 other injuries, according to foreign media.
According to a border force official, “On July 26, two BSF personnel of the UN Peace Keeping Contingent (MONUSCO) deployed at Butembo, Democratic Republic of Congo, succumbed to fatal injuries during the violent armed protests.”
