A Ukrainian official claimed the country has regained control of an international airport, roughly 25 miles outside of Kyiv after it was seized by Russian forces on Thursday.
Antonov Airport, 20 miles north of Kyiv in the town of Hostomel, was being patrolled by Russian airborne troops on Thursday. The airport is seen as a vital asset for Moscow to bring more troops and military equipment into the capital.
According to a report the Ukrainian servicemen were trying to push the Russians back from the site.
On Thursday evening, the Ukrainian government said that they had retaken the airport and repelled the elite Russian troops. Ukraine’s National Guard posted a photo to social media of three soldiers holding a bullet-riddled Ukrainian flag and said they were heroes of the battle.

He said that at least 137 Ukrainians are dead, and 300 injured.
Report says if the Antonov Airport wouldn’t have been retaken the Russians would have a key air bridge to deliver more troops and military equipment for a potential assault on Ukraine’s capital with control of Antonov International Airport.
