Vandalism of Goddess Kali Idol in Shillong; Condemns VHP

Following the vandalism of the Goddess Kali Idol in Shillong, the Vishva Hindu Parishad has filed a FIR with the Jhalupara Police Outpost in Shillong, requesting the arrest of the ‘culprits’ responsible for vandalising and destroying the Goddess Kali idol at Bhootnath Kali Temple in Mawbah Shillong on the night of January 1 and 2.

The VHP stated in the FIR that the broken idol of Goddess Kali was discovered by the temple’s priest on January 2 in the morning, and that the incident had hurt the sentiments of devotees in particular and the Hindu population in general, and that the incident required an investigation and the arrest of the perpetrators.

Last year, during the Dugra Puja celebrations in Bangladesh, temples, god idols, and Durga Puja Pandals were smashed by communal rioters, resulting in a great outcry from foreign communities to protect Bangladesh’s minority group.

It is a horrible deed for any community to engage in such cowardly activity that damages the sensibilities of a certain religion. And stern punishment should be taken against the perpetrators in order to prevent future acts of communal strife.
