Violent Protests in Amravati against Tripura violence; Section 144 imposed
Prohibitory orders have been placed in Amravati in response to rallies against violence in Tripura. In response to protests against Tripura violence, Amravati’s supervising minister, Yashomati Thakur, was quoted by news agency ANI as saying that Section 144 had been imposed.
The violence occurred on Saturday as part of a bandh (shutdown) in response to Friday’s stone-pelting incidents at Muslim organizations’ rallies across the state in protest of communal violence in Tripura. Hundreds of protesters marched through the streets of Amravati’s Rajkamal Chowk district, many waving saffron flags and shouting slogans.
The event occurred during a bandh (shutdown) organized by a saffron body in response to stone-pelting incidents in Amravati city on Friday during Muslim organizations’ rallies in protest of communal violence in Tripura.
Officials stated that around 8,000 people gathered outside the Amravati district collector’s office on Friday to present a statement seeking an end to crimes against the minority population.
Hundreds of people, many of them brandishing saffron flags and shouting slogans, flocked to the streets of Rajkamal Chowk in this east Maharashtra city, about 670 kilometers from the state capital.
According to a police official, several members of the mob threw stones at shops in the Rajkamal Chowk area and elsewhere, causing damage.
According to him, the cops used lathi-charge to disperse the demonstrators.
He said the extra police force has been deployed at several locations in Amravati.
When individuals were departing after delivering the memorandum, stone-pelting occurred at three locations within the Kotwali police station, between Chitra Chowk and Cotton Market.
So far, the Kotwali Police Department has filed 11 FIRs on various offenses, including rioting. An official stated that ten people had been apprehended.
We strongly condemn the events of yesterday in Amravati. I appeal to residents and political leaders to remember that it is our obligation to keep the peace and harmony in our community. I’d want to ask the guardian minister to avoid putting a political spin on this and instead focus on people’s safety stated Navneet Rana is a Lok Sabha Member of Parliament representing Amravati.
