Weekly positivity rate more than 10% in 8 districts across India, including Mizoram & Arunachal
On Thursday, the Union Health Ministry reviewed the COVID-19 situation in the country, particularly in light of the Omicron variant, a new, extremely contagious viral strain that is sweeping the country causing citizens to be concerned yet again.
“Weekly positivity rates of more than 10% have been observed in eight districts, including six in Mizoram, one in Arunachal Pradesh, and Kolkata in West Bengal.” “In 14 districts, the weekly case positive rate is between 5-10 percent,” adds Union health secretary Luv Agrawal.
“On average, India recorded more than 8,000 instances each day last week,” Luv Aggarwal, Joint Secretary, Union Health Ministry, said in a press conference. The overall rate of case positive is 0.92 percent. The country has been reporting 10,000 cases each day since December 26.
On the basis of weekly COVID-19 cases and positivity, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Karnataka, and Gujarat are emerging as states/UTs of concern.
Aside from that, Aggarwal claimed that the cities of Mumbai, Pune, Thane, Bengaluru, Chennai, Mumbai Suburban, and Gurugram are seeing an increase in the number of instances.
