The Mamata Banerjee government in West Bengal launched the ‘Duare Ration’ (ration at doorstep) scheme on Tuesday which the administration said will benefit around 10 crores of people of the state.
“This Duare Ration scheme will help 10 crore people of the state. I will request all the ration dealers to make it a success,” Banerjee said while launching the scheme and flagging off vehicles that would deliver the ration.
The ration at doorstep – ‘ duare ration’ scheme was part of AITC’s manifesto in recently concluded assembly polls. Based on the success of “Duare Sarkar”, a social welfare scheme introduced by the state government which yielded good results during polls, the state government planned to introduce ‘Duare Ration’, or ration at doorstep, to reach out to the grassroots and avoid corruption. A vehicle carrying ration will reach the neighbourhood, where people will collect ration.
She said the government would provide around 21,000 ration dealers with financial assistance of Rs one lakh each to purchase vehicles for delivering ration to people in this way.
Mamata Banerjee urged the food department to offer ration dealership to women to promote women’s employment.
At the programme, Banerjee also inaugurated a WhatsApp chatbot for the Food and Supplies Department of the state government and a mobile application, ‘Khadya Sathi: Amar Ration Mobile App’ to help people apply for ration cards and get information about how to do it.
