1 UP Minister and 1 BJP MLA will resign every day till Jan 20 says former BJP Minister
As BJP members continue to leave the party every day for the past few days, former Uttar Pradesh minister Dharam Singh Saini, who went on to join the Samajwadi Party, told reporters, “One UP minister and one BJP legislator will leave every day until 20 January”
In response to the question of why he left the BJP, Saini said he wasn’t being heard. “There were times when 140 MLAs sat on dharna and were threatened,” he said.
Sharad Pawar said at a news conference earlier today that four BJP state legislators in Uttar Pradesh were considering leaving the party later today.
There is not a single day when a BJP leader does not leave the party. Take UP, for example, where 13 MLAs have left the BJP to join another party. I have learned today that four BJP MPs have quit the party as well,” Pawar said.
NCP leader Nawab Malik, who also spoke to reporters, revealed that the party has chosen to form an alliance with the Samajwadi Party to contest the 2019 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. “We have agreed to run in Uttar Pradesh elections with the Samajwadi Party. One seat has been reserved, and discussions are underway for the remaining seats. We would back the alliance that is developing in Uttar Pradesh “Malik remarked.
On February 14, assembly elections will be held in Punjab, Uttarakhand, and Goa in a single round, while Manipur will vote in two stages on February 27 and March 3. Between February 10 and March 7, Uttar Pradesh voters will elect 403 MLAs in seven phases. The counting of votes will take place on March 10. Political parties are preparing for digital campaigning in the poll-bound states, as the EC has banned all physical gatherings till January 15. Meanwhile, the BJP in Uttar Pradesh has taken a major hit as seven of its top leaders resigned in the previous two days.
Following the resignations of one after another of the BJP’s top leaders, Union Home Minister and senior BJP leader Amit Shah hosted a meeting of the UP steering committee at the party’s Delhi headquarters on Wednesday.
