On Tuesday, in Mumbai’s eastern suburb of Ghatkopar, a seven-year-old child was raped by a tempo driver. The tempo Sachin Sharma driver entice her with chocolate when he found the child alone in a locality on Tuesday afternoon.
A 35-year-old accused was arrested within 24 hours of the incident late on Wednesday night by the Mumbai police.
The accused took the girl to an isolated place where he allegedly raped her and later abandoned her, the official said.
A person who was passing by saw a seven-year-old girl in a condition where she could not reveal anything but she kept crying as she was frightened by the situation that just has happened to her. However, after the counseling, she somehow narrated the event that befell her, and that help the police to be able to catch the accused on Wednesday evening.
“We apprehended the accused within 24 hours of the crime. He has been booked under section 376 (rape) and other relevant provisions of the IPC and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act,” said Prashant Kadam, deputy commissioner of police (DCP) zone 7.
