Arun Yogiraj: Sculpting from 5 generations, feels blessed after the commencement of Subhas Chandra Bose’s Statue
Arun has a great connection with stones since he was born, as he belongs to a family of sculptures. And he’s the fifth generation of this family who has been doing excellence in his work since started sculpting. His family has carved several palaces and beautifully defined temples. Chowdappa Achar, Basavanna Achar, Basavanna Shilpi, Yogiraj Shilpi were very popular artists of their age, so it was obvious that Arun would be sharing a kind of bond with craving stones. According to Arun his father and grandfather craved him into beautiful sculpture and that’s how his house became his first school.
In January at a video conference among the six best artists, and after a big number of discussions, the Mysore-based sculptor Arjun’s version of Subhash Chandra Bose got approved for creating his statue and to be installed at India Gate under the grand canopy near which the Amar Jawan Jyothi flickers. Arun says, that it is an honour for him to sculpt a heroic and prominent figure of Nation, as very less people do get the chance of doing this kind of work. He sees this as a blessing and a chance to show his love towards nation by his creative side. The statue will be sculpted from ‘black jade granite stone from Kamam’ and is likely to completed by August.
