IIMC establishes a new permanent campus in Aizawl

The Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) has established a permanent north eastern regional campus in Aizawl to assist students from the region interested in pursuing further education in journalism and digital media. President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the campus on Thursday, which will provide postgraduate diploma courses in English journalism and digital media, as well as short-term media and communication courses.

IIMC has five regional campuses: Dhenkanal in Odisha, Aizawl in Mizoram, Jammu in J&K, Kottayam in Kerala, and Amravati in Maharashtra, with the main campus in New Delhi. The regional campuses were established with the goal of serving to different regions and satisfying the country's need for media education. The IIMC North East Campus commenced operations in 2011 in a temporary building provided by Mizoram University.

The IIMC permanent campus, located on eight acres of property donated by Mizoram University, has administrative and academic facilities, as well as hostels and staff quarters. Since its beginning, the campus has offered a PG diploma course in English journalism to students from all over India, with some coming from the North Eastern states. "I am delighted to open the permanent campus of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication in Aizawl, which will benefit media and mass communication courses throughout the North East," the President stated. She stated that the IIMC provides a dynamic learning and working environment that fosters new ideas, creativity, research, and the development of leaders and innovators in the media and mass communication fields.
