Meghalaya to increase liquor prices by 8 to 9%

The state Cabinet approved reclassification of IMFL brands on Wednesday, which will result in a modest increase in the price of liquor.

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, who presided over the meeting, stated that the government has resolved to reclassify brand categories for IMFL by revisions to advolerem, MVAT on liquor, and Rule 44 (10) of the Meghalaya Bonded Warehouse Rules, among other things.

Sangma went on to say that prices may rise anywhere from 3-4 percent to 8-9 percent, depending on the brand, with the majority of brands being affected.

He explained that the government reclassified the brands and raised the price on some of them after the rates in neighboring states altered in recent months. The CM stated that the government will receive around Rs 25 crore plus additional revenue as a result of the new decision, claiming that alcohol will be slightly more expensive.
