In the midst of simmering U.S.-China tensions brought on by U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s trip to Taiwan, Pakistan has stated its support for the “One-China” policy. China’s “friend” in all weathers declared support for China’s “sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
The growing Taiwan Strait crisis “has major consequences for regional peace and stability,” according to a statement from Pakistan’s Foreign Office (FO). The country further stated that it “strongly believes that inter-state relations should be based on mutual respect, non-interference in domestic affairs, and peaceful resolution of conflicts by maintaining the principles of the UN charter, international law, and bilateral agreements.”
Pakistan, which joined Russia in supporting the One China policy, released a statement on Tuesday night stating that it supported “China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
The growing Taiwan Strait crisis, which may have significant repercussions for regional peace and stability, has Pakistan expressing “deep concern,” according to the country. Islamabad asserted that the effects of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine were already being felt around the world, particularly in terms of the availability of food and oil.
The foreign ministry stated that “the world cannot afford another crisis that has detrimental effects on international peace, security, and economy.”
